‘Innocent bystander’ fatally shot in Holyoke Mall confrontation between 2 others


A man described by police as an “innocent bystander” died Saturday evening after being shot during a confrontation between two others at a Massachusetts shopping mall.Officers of the Holyoke Police Department were called to the Holyoke Mall at approximately 6:59 p.m., the Hampden District Attorney’s Office said. They found the shooting victim and immediately took a suspect into custody.“The victim was an innocent bystander to a confrontation between two other people,” the DA’s office said. The case is now considered an active homicide investigation and is being handled by the Holyoke Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the DA’s office. Officials did not immediately release the identities of the victim or the suspect who was arrested.
