Some school districts cancel classes as winter weather hits North Texas

Some school districts have already canceled classes because of the wintry weather in North Texas.

The majority of the closed schools are in the western portions of the FOX 4 viewing area.

They include Aledo, Azle, Brock, Castleberry, Celina, Eagle-Mountain-Saginaw, Granbury, Jacksboro, Lake Worth, Little Elm, Mineral Wells, Northwest, Palo Pinto, Stephenville, Tolar, Weatherford, and White Settlement ISDs.

Some districts including Community, Everman, Kaufman, Muenster, Pilot Point, Springtown, and Terrell ISDs will close early Monday.

There could be more cancelations and early releases as the day goes on. 

FOX 4 Weather meteorologist Evan Andrews said freezing rain and sleet are in the forecast for parts of North Texas Monday afternoon.

For Tuesday, Kaufman ISD is planning to delay the start of school.

Pilot Point ISD has already announced it will be closed on Tuesday.

Many school districts have also canceled or rescheduled after-school athletic events for Monday and Tuesday.
