Omaha Police identify man shot to death in shootout with officers


Omaha Police said Steven Docken, 38, died Monday in a shootout with officers at Dino’s Storage near 53rd and Center. Two OPD officers suffered injuries that were not life threatening.Officer Nicholas Lanning, who has seven years of service, and officer Joshua Moore, who has one year of service, were injured in the shootout, Omaha police said.In a news release, OPD said property managers called 911 around 10:30 p.m. to report someone was breaking into a unit being used to store a gun case and ammunition.When police arrived, OPD says they encountered Docken inside an open storage unit. Police say Docken ran when confronted. When officers caught-up to him, there was a physical altercation and an exchange of gunfire.Docken was shot multiple times and died at the scene. The two officers were shot in their lower extremities.The names of the officers have not been released. Police said Tuesday one of the officers went home from the hospital just hours after the shooting. The other is hospitalized with non-life threatening injures.
